Herbal Medicine & Nutrition

“Keep Close To Nature’s Heart”

John Muir

Herbal Medicine, alone or integrated with conventional medicine or other approaches, can address a wide range of conditions such as:

  • anxiety,
  • depression,
  • stress,
  • diabetes,
  • weight-related issues,
  • digestive complaints,
  • auto-immune conditions,
  • cancer,
  • chronic fatigue & ME,
  • cardiovascular issues
  • degenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s or Multiple Sclerosis.

My (Owen’s) primary modality for affecting change, healing and growth are the tools of Herbal Medicine; plants, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. All work is done in close collaboration with you to develop an approach that works within the specifics of your life.

Ultimately herbal medicine is about education and communication. My goal is to teach and empower you to improve your health, by giving you the tools to manage specific health conditions, and by helping you make meaningful and long-lasting improvements in your nutrition and lifestyle.

I will help you become aware of and shift detrimental patterns into healthier ones. You will then gradually be able to move toward a state of balance, adaptability and harmony at all levels.

My approach involves a synthesis of traditional wisdom, (including Ayurvedic, Chinese and Western constitutional models) with the scientific method. Having a solid background in Biology, I combine Western science as it applies to our understanding of physiology and nutrition, with a deep knowledge of the wisdom of botany and nature.

Taking the first step:

The initial consultation lasts about two hours, and consists of an in-depth intake. This provides me with a comprehensive understanding of your physical and emotional health. I will then give you a range of personalised herbal, nutritional and lifestyle recommendations and together we will make a plan for how to move forward. The first follow-up generally occurs two weeks later, and we go from there. All my recommendations are formed in close collaboration with you. My job is to provide you with information and support in initiating and establishing long-term, health-positive changes.

Nutrition

Food is something you will have to interact with as long as you have a body, and we all know how much the food you eat can impact the way you feel, not just physically but also mentally and emotionally. Not just what you eat is important, but also how you eat, as well as your relationship to food and eating (which in many cases can be quite complex).

As always, we work with you as an individual, taking all of your life circumstances into account, to find out what your best way to eat is, rather that prescribing you a ready made ‘one size fits all diet’.

Owen has an in-depth knowledge both of the latest Western scientific insights into health and eating (as opposed to fad diets), as well as of other ways of approaching food such Ayurvedic medicine.
